Mae Elizabeth (Ridenour) Sayler

Mae Elizabeth (Ridenour) Sayler, 85, of Emmitsburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Thurmont, MD, on May 26, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Guy Anthony and Sarah (Grable) Ridenour and the last remaining child of their 13 children.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas Franklin Sayler, Sr.; her brothers and sisters, Charles Ridenour, Olia Cool, Helen Sharer, Clarence Ridenour, William Ridenour, Franklin Ridenour, James Ridenour, Mary Kuykendall, Doris Ott, Florence Hobbs, Guy Ridenour Jr. and Nancy Topper.

She is survived by her children, James Sayler (Melissa), Carol Krietz (Anthony Sr.), Thomas Franklin Sayler, Jr. (Linda); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Mae worked at the Emmitsburg and Thurmont Shoe Factory’s for many years until they closed. She finally retired many years later from the Mount Saint Mary’s University kitchen. She enjoyed baking and sharing her cakes with family and friends. In her spare time, she loved making quilts and other sewing projects. She made yo-yo quilt blankets for all her kids and several grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 210 W. Main Street, Emmitsburg, MD on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Elias Evangelical Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg, MD. Interment will immediately follow at the church cemetery.
